Colleges and universities have specific deadlines for submission of financial aid applications and verification information. All colleges require the Federal Application for Student Financial Aid (FAFSA) to be filed as soon as possible to determine a student’s eligibility for federal, state, and other need-based financial assistance.
Students and parents need to apply for pin numbers prior to completing the financial aid application. Having the pin numbers will speed up the process of applying online and have the results available to colleges more quickly for financial aid awards.
Students and their parents may fill out the FAFSA beginning on January 1 of any given year. Filling out this form as soon as income tax returns can be completed ensures that students have the best opportunities to receive all available funds, as state monies are often first-come-first-serve.
