Thank a School Board Member
January 10, 2012
The Prairie Valley Community benefits every day from the tireless work and countless hours dedicated by a group of 7 men and women that serve on the Prairie Valley ISD Board of Trustees. These public servants receive no compensation for their efforts. January is School Board Recognition Month and Prairie Valley ISD will take this opportunity to thank these local leaders for devoting time to support public education and serve our local school.
Their job is to establish a vision for the education program, design a structure to achieve that vision, assure schools are accountable to the community, and strongly advocate continuous improvement in student learning. That job entails an endless string of meetings and school functions to attend: reports, agendas, proposals, and other information to read and study; and a host of difficult decisions to make.
“Even though we are making a special effort in January to show appreciation to our board members, we realize their contributions reflect a year-round commitment,” said W R Tucker, Prairie Valley ISD superintendent. “They un-selflessly give of themselves to ensure that decisions directly affecting our school are made for the betterment of the students’ education. In these challenging times, they face difficult choices and shoulder critical responsibilities. Their ultimate goal is always focused on the future success of every student enrolled in Prairie Valley ISD.”
Prairie Valley school board members come from many walks of life. While they wear many hats in the workday world, the members put on a collective hat when they get down to the business of leading the District. They pull together as a team toward a common goal--helping our students achieve. While they may individually disagree on certain issues, they consistently strive toward the excellence of the Prairie Valley ISD.
“Our district is enriched by the contributions of these local citizens who truly care about our kids. Serving as a crucial link between the community and classroom, this board is responsible for an annual budget of $2 million, 155 students, and 32 employees. We applaud their efforts to serve as advocates for our children and the voice of public education.” Tucker said.
