Fire Prevention Assembly

Elizabeth Johnson

November 06, 2009

The elementary students of Prairie Valley went on a field trip to attend a Fire Prevention Assembly at Nocona Elementary along with other schools on Wednesday, November 4th. They learned the importance of changing the batteries in smoke alarms twice a year. A good way to remember this is to remember the holidays, Easter and Thanksgiving. This is when batteries should be changed. Students were entertained by firefighters who used puppets to demonstrate how to test batteries on smoke alarms. They were amazed by the demonstration of puppets, which included a lighter, match, and clown puppets. They learned that if you find a match or a lighter to always take it to a parent or another adult. They also learned that if there is smoke in the house, to get down as low as possible and crawl to the designated exit. Parents, ask your children questions about their trip and have a safe plan in place in case there is a fire.
