January News
We are at the midpoint in our school year. I will be giving the TPRI this month to assess your child's reading progress. Following this I will send the results home. If your child is having difficulty I will schedule a conference,so we can discuss ways to help your child improve. Here are the things we will be studying this month.
Reading-We will be learning how to compare and contrast things in our stories. We are also retelling stories and looking for the main idea and details. We are also continuing our Pizza Hut reading.
Spelling-We are learning to spell words with long "a", "e'" and "o."
Language- We are learning to determine when to use is, are, was, were, has, have, did, and done. We will also be practicing alphabetical order.
Math-We are learning to tell time and continuing to practice our math facts. We will also practice counting to 100 by ones, tens, fives, and twos. January 27 will be our 100th day of first grade. On that day I would like students to bring 100 of something. This could be pennies, toothpicks, Cheerios, cotton balls, or anything you have around the house that we could use for this math activity.
Social Studies- We will be learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. and the months of the year.
Science-We will be studying soil and rocks.
Thank you
