School News and Announcements

In the Event of Bad Weather Closing and/or Delay

by W R Tucker

January 05, 2010

The Prairie Valley ISD may have to close school, delay the starting time, or dismiss early because of inclement weather. That decision is made by Mr. Tucker and is based on current conditions and the forecast for the day. Safety of students and staff remain the utmost concern regarding that decision. All efforts will be made to announce a closure or late start by 6:00 a.m. Mr. Tucker will use a very conservative approach with regard to that decision. The scrolling banner on the main Prairie Valley web site page is the first place the announcement will be seen. The events, of closure or delay, are as follows:

  1. A decision is made (approximately 6:00 a.m.) and Mr. West is contacted.
  2. Mr. Tucker enters the decision on the main web page scrolling banner: http://www.prairievalleyisd.net
  3. Individuals that have signed up to receive e-mail of school updates will receive an e-mail announcing the decision
  4. Mr. Tucker and Mr. West will initiate the phone bank in the following order:  bus drivers, cafeteria workers, other employees, and students.
  5. Radio and TV stations are contacted

In the event that school must be dismissed early, the students will be allowed to contact parents regarding that decision before dismissal. Dismissing early will be a last resort because of the very high degree of inconvenience.  Parents are to feel free in picking up their children early if they are fearful, regarding the weather, and the school is not dismissed.
